CHNC challenge extra for August

Can you believe that it's now August? Where has the year gone to so far? The months really do pass more quickly as you get older.

This means it's time to start CHNC challenge extra for August and for my first Christmas card of the month I've used three images kindly supplied by Bugaboo Stamps, the sponsor: wise man 1, 2 and 3 and combined them into one image. Please click on the link for the challenge and join in with any Christmas cards you make.

The background paper is a freebie with a magazine from some time in the distant past. The mirror card pieces were all from my offcuts box including the one embossed with the folder that came with my eBosser. Ribbon was from Lakeland (in their after-Christmas sale).

I coloured with promarkers and flexmarkers.

I followed the sketch for 2 sisters 154:

Old-school colour blocking

This card is for CCEE 1330: old school colour blocking - 'I'm asking you to use one particular style only - several different colours/patterns of card cut into block shapes and pieced together, with stamping on some/all of them.'

It's a good way to use up scraps! And used one of my favourite Santa Hero Arts stamps.

Springy trains

When a friend saw my card with wobbly dinosaurs, she asked if I could make a card with trains on springs. Fortunately, I had some Papermania mini springs and found up a Hunkydory topper and a railcard padded sticker that seemed suitable. The backing paper is Basic Grey Obscure, on to which I printed the wavy railway line. The sentiments were from Kanban.

The card doesn't look as dull in real life!

A birthday insert is being added inside.

White Christmas

Yesterday's challenge for Facebook Sunday's with Santa week 30 was 'shades of white' - I've kept to the challenge except for the stazon ultramarine ink for stamping - well, white wouldn't have shown up, would it? Lol! The sentiment stamp is from Personal Impressions.

It's always difficult to get a photo of white on white, so this is the best I can do, especially as the rain came just as I wanted to get the photo.

Everything used was from my offcut boxes, including the glittered swirl pieces originally from Poundland. Ribbons from Hobbycraft.

Commissioned wedding card

I was asked to make an A4 size wedding day card using green. I remembered that some years ago I bought some lovely Carol Wilson papers and among them was the pagoda shape that I've used. I had to have several attempts to get the text the right size to fit the apertures, but when I was happy with it, I printed out on to an offcut of prima green paper. The background foiled card is Hunkydory, the flowers are Craftime and the silver ribbon from stash.

I know it looks odd, but please note that as I didn't want to show the names of the recipients I digitally used a distortion brush so they can't be seen. The actual names have been printed downwards in the two smaller spaces.

On the insert it says:
Wishing both of you love and happiness ever after

Folded Christmas tree card

It's Karen's turn to set the challenge for the Christmas Card Club and she asked us to make a card that included a teabag/origami folded topper. This was indeed a challenge for me! I played around with a few ideas, but then settled on making a teabag folded tree following this Youtube link.

All papers, including the gold foiled vellum beneath the tree were all from my Christmas offcuts box and the stars were from Poundland. I inked the bottom edges of the tree sections with a copic pen.

The fold foiling on the vellum doesn't show up there, but you get some idea of what it looks like from this close up on a section:

CHNC challenge 135: snowmen or women

It's Saturday again and time for a new CHNC challenge - for CHNC challenge 135 I'm asking to see snowmen or women.

My card features a small printed version of  'Frosty the snowman' added to the 'snowy postbox' image by Delicious Doodles, one of the sponsors.

Papers are from my Christmas offcuts box, ribbon is a left over piece of white and silver snowflakes. The snowflake ripple stickers were from Hobbycraft.

The morning stars sang together ...

... and the angels shouted for Job - Job 38:7

If you've seen my previous post, you'll know that, having stamped a card blank wrongly, I had the idea of making ten cards out of five card blanks, which I've done here as well.

These blank card blanks already had the random silver foiling on the edges, so all I've done is inked the Tin can mail stamp with versamark and heat embossed with silver detail powder.

So that's another two packs of 5 Christmas cards ready for selling for Tearfund.

A happy accident

As regular readers of my blog know, I sell Christmas cards to raise funds for Tearfund. I don't charge as much for them as for other cards because people need a lot of Christmas cards and can't afford to pay too much for them (especially as they can go to certain shops and get a box full cheaply). I always make some packs of 5 to sell for £2 - they always seem to go well. I had some nice cream square card blanks with random gold foiling on the edges. I decided to simply ink the Anna Griffin stamp with versamark and heat emboss with detail gold powder. The stamp was a bargain - it had been used so it was in the bargain bin at That Craft Place when I visited a couple of months ago.

Having successfully stamped and embossed four cards I then found that I'd done the fifth one upside down! Of course, I could have kept the 4 and discarded the wrong one, but I wanted packs of five. Then I realised that, as the cards had the foiling on both sides I could cut them and make ten cards from the five card blanks - all I needed were 10 plain card blanks to stick them to - you can't see it here, but the card blanks are actually dark brown, which gives a nice contrast to the cream.

So, I'm glad I made the mistake of stamping upside down - now I have two packs of 5 cards!

Easy cards on another hot day

Once the sun had gone off the summerhouse and there was some shade and breeze through the windows, I took some crafting up there - and my iPad so I could watch some TV.

I didn't feel like doing much, so I took the easy option. I bought a couple of packs of Christmas card blanks in Hobbycraft sale earlier in the year - all I needed to add was some papers inside. I used papers from Echo park 'winter wishes'.

Here's a set of four cards:

The hardest thing with these cards is trying not to bend any of the delicate cut outs ... you can see that I have cut away a tree on one of the cards because it got a bit damaged - hope no one will realise that there should be a tree there.

I found up some silver peel offs that I've had for years and years, so I used them for the greetings.

More experimenting with gelli prints

For this card I gelli plate printed with gold and copper on to an offcut piece of lightly patterned paper (just a few leaves here and there)  once again using the mini echoes stencil by The cafters workshop. Unfortunately, the gold and copper paint doesn't show up sufficiently on the photo (took quite a few and couldn't get better) - and the flowers are much more aqua in real life.

I backed this with a piece of gold mirror card, on to a pastel aqua card blank. The orange flowers are Poundland and the inner silk flowers from Create and Craft.

I'm also adding this for the colours for Moxie fab world Tuesday trigger: painterly palette:

Gelli plate pink

This card is made with backgrounds created with the gelli plate and acrylic paint, using the mini echoes stencil by The cafters workshop that I showed here. The strip between the ribbons was created while the stencil was on the gelli plate and the main background was made when the stencil was removed. Both papers were from my scraps box, the main one being another piece of MME Andrea Victoria (the reverse side of golden damask). I think I was a bit heavy handed when pressing the paper for the main print, but I quite like the appearance - it doesn't look too neat! The dark flowers were from Poundland - I took off the gems from the middles and added the silk flowers with pearls from Create and Craft. The sentiment panel is one that I've had for ages (still got loads like it - never seem to use them nowadays).

Gelli plate flowers

Yesterday afternoon I took my gelli plate, paints and various papers and stencils etc up into the summerhouse and played with making prints.

As well as using some plain card, I tried out some printing on patterned paper. I used an offcut of My Mind's Eye Andrea Victoria (the reverse side of golden damask), using a mini echoes stencil by The cafters workshop that I bought last week at Craftability in Ipswich with some brown acrylic paint.

The offcut of paper wasn't big enough to use as a background, so I decided to make a couple of wacky flowers (still not sure that I like them - bit different for me) by tearing rough circles and creating stems and leaves out of bits left over, just adding a circular sentiment.

Faux stitching for CHNC challenge 134

Another card for my CHNC challenge 134: stitching.  I've used 'winter' digital papers supplied by Floppy Latte Designs, stamping with a favourite Inkadinkado angel stamp, with some faux stitching creating a border using a Sakura gelli roll pen.

Two of the printed papers were torn around perspex oval templates. The angel stamp was inked with versamark and heat embossed with detail silver embossing powder. Snowflakes were cut with some of the paper using a Docrafts punch. The sentiment is a left over from a Kanban kit bought some years ago.
